FESTIVAL

Spontaneous Combustion

Started in 2011 as a guerilla event, Spotaneous Combustion is today an independent association producing performance projects in urban spaces.

Recent projects have included a walking tool mobile app, devised in collaboration between five artists (2014), two residencies at arebyte gallery in 2014 adn 2013, and a yearly  festival happening in various spaces around the city.

The festival normally features a two-day programme of performances happening in outdoor and indoor locations.

Some of our previous locations were a hair salon, a boat, a canal side, a gym, a book distribution depot,  a car park, a residential warehouse.

The festival operates in association both with art and cultural instutions, commercial businesses, community groups.

“I find it endlessly fascinating watching what happens when the space a performance is taking place in becomes intruded upon by the public, in this case a mixture of Saturday strollers, pushchairs, bicycles and dog walkers” [...] “Passers by become dancers, against their will, melting seamlessly for split second intervals into the performance”.
